Chelsea and the Ligue 1 side Lyon are in discussions over a potential deal for defender Emerson Palmieri, according to the latest reports. The Italy full-back is coming off the back of a double European Championship winning campaign. As per the French media outlet Get French Football News, the two sides are in talks as Les Gones are unlikely to sign league rivals Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa.

Palmieri has previously been mentioned with a move back to Serie A with Napoli, Inter Milan and Juventus all interested in landing the wing-back. It was previously claimed that the Partenopei would be prepared to take Emerson on loan with an obligation to buy, however the Blues are seeking a permanent deal this month and Lyon could offer this. The defender has spoken about wanting more playing time ahead of the new campaign and it appears that quitting Chelsea could be the way forward.

It was previously stated that Thomas Tuchel is interested in offloading the Italo-Brazilian and with Marcos Alonso’s impressive start to the term, bagging against Crystal Palace, Palmieri could be offloaded as the Blues currently have three left-backs in the roster.

Chelsea are allegedly monitoring Jude Bellingham as the Blues plot a transfer move for the midfielder as an alternative to West Ham’s Declan Rice. The west Londoners have only made two acquisitions up until now this summer market. Shot-stopper Marcus Bettinelli arrived first for nothing after leaving Fulham before Romelu Lukaku’s record £97.5 million move from Inter Milan.

Eurosport’s Dean Jones states the Blues ‘have an eye’ on the 18-year-old midfielder after his stunning first year in the Bundesliga. He said on The Football Terrace podcast: “I’ve talked about Jude Bellingham in the past and that one becomes interesting. And we’ll see what happens at Dortmund this season under Marco Rose.

“I know he’s excited about the project there and he’s definitely getting better as a player. But Chelsea do also have an eye on Jude Bellingham. If, for whatever reason, Declan Rice doesn’t work out.” Chelsea would likely face stiff competition from Manchester United for the former Birmingham City man.

Thomas Tuchel is confident midfielder N’Golo Kante will be fit to play against Arsenal next Sunday. The Frenchman missed Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday after picking up an ankle injury in the Uefa Super Cup win over Villarreal last week. The German tactician opted to take no risks with N’Golo over the weekend but the star will return to training this week ahead of the English giants’ trip to the Emirates on Sunday.

‘N’Golo felt discomfort in his ankle (on Friday). He [first] felt it in the warm-up in the Super Cup match against Villarreal. He played a little bit in pain and [on Friday] he felt it again,’ Thomas said. ‘We decided to take him out and not risk him at the beginning of the season. I think N’Golo will be back in the middle of the week to get ready for Arsenal.’ The Chelsea head coach could also hand a debut to summer signing Romelu Lukaku, who sealed his return to the Stamford Bridge outfit for a club-record sum last Thursday.
