Thomas Tuchel's has shown why Trevoh Chalobah is Chelsea's secret weapon this season despite being dealt a pair of transfer blows in the twilight hours of the transfer window hampering their title charge.


Chalobah, who forced his way into Tuchel's plans this summer after an impressive pre-season, was brought off the bench in the Blues' unwavering draw against Liverpool operating in a double pivot alongside Mateo Kovacic.

The 22-year-old's introduction to proceedings at Anfield was the next step in building the Blues boss' trust by utilising Chalobah outside of his primary centre-back role in a clash of incredible magnitude that balanced on a knifes edge.

Chalobah is a centre-half by trade but has enjoyed a catalogue of experience as a holding midfielder on loan spells at Lorient and Huddersfield, highlighting the versatility he offers obviating the panic should Chelsea fail to sign Jules Kounde and, or, Saul NIguez.


Kounde's move to west London appears to be off until Sevilla retrogress their improved asking price to the verbal agreement they reached with Chelsea, according to The Athletic.


Meanwhile, the curtains look to have been drawn over Saul's proposed move to Stamford Bridge according to The Telegraph, which opens an array of avenues for Chalobah to feature and grow into a sustained role at the Blues.

Chelsea have tabled a new four-year contract for the former England youth international, signalling the club's sign of assurance that Chalobah has a fruitful future at the club, whether it's as a midfielder or defender.

Should Chalobah's natural progression find him pigeonholed as a centre-half oppose to a double six, the likes of Mason Mount, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic would be able to cover in said role until Chelsea next enter the market.

Likewise, on the other side of the coin, the Blues would be left with a healthy selection of candidates to operate in a back three.

Chalobah's rise to stardom in west London should be treated like the arrival of new star-studded signing, relinquishing any panic should a multi-million-pound player not arrive at Stamford Bridge before the transfer window slams shut.
