Chelsea failed in their summer efforts to land Sevilla’s Jules Kounde after they could not find an agreement with the La Liga side for the transfer.

The west Londoners have now switched their attention towards Juventus and the Netherlands defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Il Bianconero. The Old Lady and Thomas Tuchel’s side are in the same group in the UEFA Champions League and the two games between the pair will allow the Premier League giants to watch the player more closely.

Juventus have maintained a firm position with regards to the talent as they want to retain the 22-year-old for the present and the future. Their claims are also backed up by an Italian website Calciomercato.it, who then provide more details regarding Matthijs.

Chelsea already purchased Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan and the source states the club have a ‘Serie A obsession’. Having failed to land Jules, the European champions are seriously considering signing de Ligt.

He’s rated at €70 million by the Turin club. Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich would be prepared to put on the table a sum of €18 million plus Timo Werner, who is valued at €40 million.

As per Calciomercato.it, this option does not please Massimiliano Allegri’s side since they don’t want to give up the defensive ace for money and a forward, who has not done well at Stamford Bridge
