Borussia Dortmund have placed Timo Werner on their shortlist of possible candidates to replace Erling Haaland ahead of the summer transfer window.
Norway international is widely considered to be among the finest young talents in world football, and the centre-forward’s goalscoring exploits in Germany have won him many admirers around Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Man United, Man City and Liverpool all credited with interest.
The Bundesliga giants recouped £73m from the sale of Jadon Sancho to Man United back in summer, and the German club are preparing for Erling to follow the Englishman out the exit door after convincing him to remain on for another campaign.
Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, and manager, Marco Rose, are increasingly resigned to losing the Norwegian striker, and the Blues’ Timo Werner is near the top of their wishlist to succeed Haaland, despite his struggles at Chelsea.
However, the report indicates that Germany international would have to accept a significant pay cut on his current £17m-a-year salary if a move to the Signal Iduna Park is to materialise. Timo had a difficult debut campaign last term, netting only six times in the PL, and Romelu Lukaku’s arrival from Inter Milan has raised further questions surrounding Werner’s role under the German manager.
The German striker is yet to open his account for the Blues this campaign was an unused substitute as Romelu Lukaku fired Chelsea to a 1-0 win against Zenit Saint Petersburg on Tuesday evening.
