Thomas Tuchel is hopeful that the Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will be fit for Chelsea’s vital Premier League match against Manchester City this weekend, in spite of not being back in training yet.

Mendy missed the Blues’ comfortable 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday after sustaining a hip injury during the west London giants’ UEFA Champions League match versus Zenit Saint Petersburg last Tuesday.

With the shot-stopper between the sticks, the London giants have only conceded one goal in four top-flight matches this term. While Thomas ruled his player out of the Carabao Cup match against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa on Wednesday, the German tactician is hopeful that he’ll be ready to play on Saturday.

Mendy cannot play, he’s not in training so far,’ the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint- Germain chief said at a press conference.
Our hope is to Integrate him back into individual training hopefully tomorrow and then team training later in the week. ‘We will try to do everything we can for Saturday [vs Manchester City], but he’s not ready yet.’

Thomas added: ‘I think it’s possible [to play vs City], but it’s probably a race against pain and time, but I don’t know right now.’
