Marina Granovskaia and Chelsea are set to make another attempt to sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde in the upcoming transfer windows amid the uncertainty over Antonio Rudiger's future.

Kounde, 22, was expected to make a late move to west London in the summer but Monchi's decision not to let him leave ruined any potential transfer at the time.

“The proposal for Koundé last summer [from Chelsea] was great, the most important we received in our history - but it wasn’t meeting our price tag," the Sevilla director explained. "Also, we received the bid in an inopportune moment.”

football.london understands that the short centre-half has been a long-term target for the European champions as they prepare for the future with Cesar Azpilicueta getting no younger alongside Andreas Christensen and the continued uncertainty over Rudiger's future.

The Athletic have reported that Chelsea are expected to renew their attempts to sign the former Bordeaux man with another piece also suggesting that rumours of Rudiger's representatives sounding out other clubs have some substance to them. So, could Kounde be the 28-year-old's long-term replacement in SW6 as the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Tottenham monitor the ongoing situation?

Rudiger reveals he was close to signing for PSG and Spurs football.london understands that talks have been held over the contract situation for Thomas Tuchel's most improved player in his backline, but with Rudiger potentially available on a free transfer next summer, he could possibly earn more elsewhere amid interest from foreign clubs.

On the player's behalf, it is clear that Chelsea's number 2 wants to stay at the club if his recent comments on the situation are anything to go by. "I feel good where I am now. So that fits," Rudiger stated at the start of the month. He then added on the external interest: "The interest honours me. That shows that I've done a few things right recently.

"But I don't let myself be distracted. I have an obligation to my club to perform well. I have to prove myself every game and not let myself be distracted by rumours. I make my decisions for myself. They don't depend on anyone. I feel good where I am."
