Chelsea keen on to agree deal for highly-rated Portuguese midfielderChelsea are keen on securing the services of 16-year-old midfielder Leonardo Cardoso from the Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion, according to a recent report from Football Insider.
Leonardo is a Portuguese prodigy who is highly regarded at the Baggies. Having joined their youth setup at a young age, the ace has impressed those within the board, who believe that he’s among the best youngsters in the country in his age group.
He has represented Portugal as well as England at the U16 level. His showings at the club and international levels have caught the eye of the talent spotters at Stamford Bridge. The club have a tendency of recruiting youngsters with great potential very early in their playing careers, after which they’re developed at the academy, loaned out to help their development before being sold for a profit.
However, that trend has changed in the latest seasons, with several aces from the youth sector going on to make an impact at the senior team level for Chelsea.
West Brom, for their part, are interested in tying him down to a professional deal when he turns 17 in May in 2022 and Thomas Tuchel’s side are now hoping to tempt him to Cobham before that happens. It remains to be seen if the PL bigwigs are successful in their endeavours.
