German club given green light to sign £100,000-a-week Chelsea defender

Antonio Rudiger could end up leaving the London giants when the current season ends, with Bayern Munich considered his preferred destination. However, Real Madrid are also in the race for Germany international, with his deal expiring in the summer.

Antonio looked likely to leave the Blues last winter after being frozen out of the side by ex-coach Frank Lampard. Rudiger’s absence coincided with bad results, ending with Frank Lampard’s departure and the arrival of the German manager.

Thomas Tuchel immediately brought the 28-year-old centre-back back into the fold, and the defender helped the Blues win the Champions League. Despite becoming a crucial part of the German manager’s setup, Rudiger is yet to commit his future at the club, leading to speculation of a move away when the season ends.

At 28, Antonio can have plenty more years at the top level, with the question being where. As things stand, the Blues and the centre-back have not progressed with discussions over a new deal. With his current contract expiring next summer, he has become an attractive proposition for top teams around Europe.

The Bundesliga giants have been strongly linked with a move. Their primary reason could be to replace David Alaba, who left in the summer, while also finding a new leader for their defence.

Meanwhile, the future of Niklas Sule is also a big doubt, due to an expiring deal and interest from Newcastle United. The German club chiefs believe Antonio Rudiger has the quality to be an asset for the team and are set to sit down and discuss a move.
