Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry has praised Harry Maguire for overtaking him for the most goals scored by an English defender at international level.

Maguire got on the scoresheet against Albania in the 5-0 win last week, aiming a gesture at his critics following his goal, which led Manchester United legend Roy Keane to label him “embarrassing.”

After scoring once again in the 10-0 victory over San Marino, though, Terry took to Twitter to credit Maguire, as well as directing a sly dig towards Keane for his comments:

@HarryMaguire93 Congratulations mate @England Highest scoring defender ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️👏🏻Let’s see if a few of these pundits talk about that. pic.twitter.com/9D0KiNtdRg— John Terry (@JohnTerry26) November 15, 2021

There can be no doubt that Maguire has had a difficult season so far, and he has looked well short of the player who cost the Red Devils a staggering £80m just over two years ago.

Hopefully, the 28-year-old can bring his good form with England back with him to Old Trafford in order to help United out of their current difficulties.
