Chelsea goalkeeper in talks with the club over new deal

Chelsea are set to hand goalkeeper Edouard Mendy an improved deal, according to the latest reports. The shot-stopper has been in brilliant form and was recently named as the second-place winner in the Yashin Award.

According to Football Insider, the Senegalese is set to be offered a fresh and improved contract by the club. The report adds that a Chelsea source revealed the player is in line for an extension after his fine form thus far this season.

He currently pockets around £60,000-a-week but is one of the best goalies in Europe, so is likely to receive a muchly better contract offer. The report continues to state that the Blues chiefs are aware that Mendy’s contract is not in line with the senior team regulars at Stamford Bridge and are fearful the player could be tempted by rival proposals.

Since his arrival, Edouard has played a key role for Chelsea as the ex-Rennes star displaced Kepa Arrizabalaga in the team’s starting XI on the way to lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Mendy is considered a ‘low earner’ in West London and will likely be rewarded with a pay rise because of his fantastic performances for his team.
