The London giants have joined the battle to add Casemiro from Real Madrid. Chelsea will need to table a bid worth €60m to snap up Brazil international, with Los Blancos set to discuss a move if their valuation is met.
The 29-year-old midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game, having gone from strength to strength during his stint with La Liga giants. While the Brazilian midfielder took some time to get going at Real Madrid, he has not looked back since making his breakthrough in the 2015/16 campaign.
To date, the Brazilian has played 307 games for Los Blancos, chipping in with 30 goals and 27 assists in the process. However, Real Madrid are considering the prospect of cashing in on Casemiro in the wake of poor displays in the first half of the ongoing season. Such a situation has alerted the Blues.
The interest from the Blues is understandable despite the presence of stalwarts like Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic, in addition to the resurgence of Loftus-Cheek. That is because Chelsea are unlikely to add Saul Niguez permanently, while Barkley is expected to be sold at the earliest chance.
In addition, Kante has been beset by several fitness issues in the past year, while Jorginho has flirted with the prospect of returning to Italy now and then. The Blues could do with a new defensive midfielder in such a scenario, especially with Conor Gallagher only likely to be utilised as a defensive midfielder if he is not sent out on loan again.
