Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has highlighted his sympathy for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel after Sunday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers was not postponed.

The Blues lodged a request ahead of the match for the fixture to be rearranged due to a Covid outbreak within the squad. That request was turned down by the Premier League, with Chelsea then only able to name a six-man bench - albeit two options being goalkeepers.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was certainly left frustrated, particularly after his side was held to a scoreless draw at Molineux - a result that sees their recent stutter under the German continue. Klopp though has sympathy with his compatriot especially with the Blues’ recent injury woes.

Talking to Sky Sports, he said: “Thomas Tuchel… I saw the bench today from Chelsea, come on… he has to play [Mateo] Kovacic, he has to come back from a long-term injury.”

Meanwhile, Tuchel has slammed the decision to continue playing games as usual despite having seen a number of matches fall foul of postponements over the past few weeks.

As it stands, fixtures are expected to continue, although that could potentially change with top-flight managers set to stage an emergency meeting with a circuit breaker postponement thought to be at the top of the agenda.

Speaking to the BBC, Tuchel said: "It is not safe." He added: "We talk about protecting players and a safe environment but it is not safe. I would be not surprised if the next test shows up and we have more positives. "How should it stop if we sit in the bus and have dinners and just stay together like nothing happened?"

The Blues are next in action in midweek as they face Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals before they then travel to Birmingham for a clash with Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
