Chelsea defender approached by European duo amidst Stamford Bridge contract standstill

Barcelona and AC Milan plot moves for Andreas Christensen amidst impending Chelsea contract According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and AC Milan have approached Andreas Christensen again amidst his impending contract situation with Chelsea.

The centre-back has been revitalized under Thomas Tuchel and is finally living up to his potential. But his contract situation has been looming large over the club for a while now. Christensen is among one of four senior defenders whose contracts at the club expires next summer.

Barcelona and AC Milan are looking to take advantage of this situation. The Blaugrana club are angling for a free transfer next summer, while the Italian side are looking to bring the defender through the door in January, following the injury to Simon Kjaer.

However, both clubs apparently believe that the defender will sign a new contract in the coming days. Chelsea are ready for him to put pen to paper and commit his future, but the player is yet to do so.

What’s the hold-up?

Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Thiago Silva are also out of contract in the summer. The Danish international is going to turn 26 next year and is by far the one defender we should be hopeful of retaining since he could lead the backline in the coming years.

There has been a lot of talk of him signing a new deal in the past few months. But there has been some kind of delay. Tuchel recently also mentioned that he thought the defender wanted to sign a new deal and he would like a confirmation of the same.

Thus, there is something bubbling beneath the surface. Regardless, he has started the last two games for the Blues and remains a part of Tuchel’s plans. But until he signs a new deal, Barcelona and AC Milan might try to convince him to leave Stamford Bridge.

The January transfer window is less than a month away, and it would bode well for every party if Christensen pens the new deal before the end of 2021. But then it is not over until the fat lady sings.
