Chelsea best positioned to snap up 18-year-old La Liga star

Chelsea will allegedly be at the head of the queue for midfielder Ilaix Moriba if the prodigy fails to agree a new deal with Barcelona.

The 18-year-old star made 18 appearances for the Catalan heavyweights during the 2020-21 season and had been expected to play a key role for Ronald Koeman’s side this campaign.

Moriba’s current contract at Camp Nou is due to expire next summer, though, and the player is being left out of the senior team squad at Barcelona until his contract problems are addressed.

Chelsea are one of a host of teams, including Manchester City and Manchester United, to be linked with the youngster’s services in the latest weeks.

According to a recent report from a Spanish daily sports newspaper Sport, Barcelona believe that Ilaix will either join RB Leipzig or Chelsea if he does not pen an extension at the Camp Nou outfit.

Real Madrid are also understood to be admirers of the ace, but a recent report stated that Los Blancos have agreed not to move for him because of a non-aggression pact with Blaugrana.

The highly-rated Moriba scored once and picked up three assists in 14 La Liga appearances last season.

Serie A giants interested in landing towering Chelsea midfielder

Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with Chelsea’s out-of-favour midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Roma, according to the latest reports.

The Serie A outfit have already spent close to £90 million, including the purchase of the English star Tammy Abraham for £34 million from Chelsea.

But according to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Mourinho is not done raiding his old club.

The Portuguese wants to bring in another midfielder and Ruben – who he worked briefly with during his second managerial stint at the Blues – is on his wishlist.

And the Rome-based giants have already contacted the Blues in the hope of ironing out a summer deal in the next few days. The Giallorossi are exploring the possibility of taking the star on an initial loan with an option to buy.

And should the 25-year-old impress, the club want an option to permanently buy him for £13.5 million. There is, however, one major stumbling block. They need to shift one of their out-of-favour players before fully committing to bringing the midfielder to the Serie A.

The report says Amadou Diawara and Gonzalo Villar are two players Roma will look to sell before the transfer market slams shut on August 31.

Chelsea steal march on league rivals to sign Spanish midfielder

Chelsea have reportedly overtaken Manchester United in the race to land Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The Spanish giants have put both the Blues and the Red Devils on alert after deciding to allow the player to leave the club before the end of the transfer market.

Atletico are open to letting the player leave the club on loan for the campaign and include an option to buy as part of the deal. Earlier this week, reports in Spain stated that United were ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s side in their efforts to snap up Saul, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer interested in recruiting a new central midfielder.

But according to The Telegraph, the west Londoners have entered negotiations with Los Rojiblancos and are exploring a similar deal to the one the club agreed for Mateo Kovacic, who initially signed on a one-year loan from Real Madrid before Chelsea exercise £40m purchase option.

The report states that Chelsea view Niguez as a player who can provide competition for Mateo, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho but the deal depends on their ability to offload Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley.

The Old Trafford outfit are in a similar position to the Blues in their pursuit of Saul as Solskjaer must also trim his roster in order to accommodate the Spain international.
