Chelsea have agreed a fresh four-year contract with defender Andreas Christensen, which includes a club option to keep the player for an extra year beyond that.

The 25-year-old’s existing deal was set to expire in less than a year and had the Dane failed to agree with Chelsea, he’d likely have left the west London outfit.

However, after two months of discussions, the centre-half has finally come to terms with the club’s management over a contract extension which will see him increase his salary.

It is said that Andreas has negotiated a significant pay rise but also shunned negotiations with a host of sides that tried to turn his head.

Having joined Chelsea at the age of 16, Christensen is known to feel an affinity towards the Blues and he’ll now likely surpass 10 seasons with the team.

Under Thomas Tuchel, he has produced his best form and he was an important player in the run that saw the Blues win their second Champions League trophy last season.

“I feel like I am getting close but I still think I can get better than I have been. I play more and get more fit if that makes sense. I’ve been playing a lot and growing a lot,” he said in a response to Goal ahead of the UCL final.

He followed up his great form with Chelsea to be an important player for semi-finalists Denmark at UEFA Euro 2020.
