Chelsea look to be in a rather more bizarre situation than usual with one current midfielder this summer. The Blues sent a number of players out on loan once again during this transfer window, and some of which, such as Michy Batshuayi for example, had their contracts renewed before they left so they will be able to recoup some value when/if they sell them upon their return.
However, one player they are look to just be cutting their losses with can effectively start negotiating with new clubs in January, whilst on his season-long loan move.
Danny Drinkwater joined Reading on loan this summer and his contract runs out next summer, a month after his loan contract runs out at Reading.
And according to The Times , Chelsea did not renew his contract before he left on loan, meaning they will be cutting ties with the 31-year old immediately on his return, as things stand.
