The Blues were helped by both Manchester City and Liverpool dropping points to Crystal Palace and Brighton respectively - Conor Gallagher grabbing a goal and an assist against City.

Premier League leaders Chelsea travelled to St James' Park to take on relegation contenders Newcastle United in a clash that wasn't always such a one-sided affair. Mount was expected to start again at St. James' Park, after bagging a hat-trick last weekend against Norwich City. But on the morning of the game, he woke up feeling ill and was sent back to London to recover. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech starting behind Kai Havertz instead.
