Chelsea’s Eden Hazard heir confirms exit as contract talks start to avoid Tino Livramento repeat

Chelsea academy product Charly Musonda took to social media on Wednesday evening to confirm he will be leaving the club at the end of his current contract next summer.

The 25-year-old Belgian announced via his Instagram account the news saying: “Free agent, June 2022. Enjoying the final ride, while training and slowly getting ready for what lies ahead, with continued faith and optimism.” Musonda has not played a competitive senior game for over two years as he has tried to recover from serious knee injuries which derailed a promising start to life at Cobham.

Our Take: This news is sadly unsurprisingly giving the persistent injury struggles Musonda has had to cope with over recent years. Given the number of players in front of him, lack of fitness or minutes this was the only realistic option for him to choose. We really hope Musonda can find a new exciting path after his Chelsea journey ends next year because the talent is certainly still there to make an impact in football.

The Ruben Revival continues

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has spoken to the Chelsea website about his recent form and overall feelings on his recovery from the career-threatening Achilles injury he suffered in 2019.

"I feel good physically and mentally I’ve left my injury behind It doesn’t even come into my head now. I’m playing freely and I can concentrate on football and football only so I’m in a good place. "I’ll try to keep developing. I’m grateful for the time on the pitch that I have and I’ll just keep giving my best."

Loftus-Cheek's return to first-team action under Thomas Tuchel has been one of the nicest stories of Chelsea's season so far. His performances are showing glimpses of the player we hoped Ruben could become from his earliest days at Cobham and his confidence is clear to see. Tuchel seems to be willing to give Loftus-Cheek more minutes and his dynamic ability to drive through midfield offers something few others can give to our ball progression from a deeper role.

New contract for Vale?

Chelsea are apparently in talks with youngster Harvey Vale to extend the 18-year-old's contract to prevent an exit next summer. Talks began last month and initial offers have been discussed. "There is no rush from either side to finalise terms but things are heading in a positive direction" according to Simon Johnson from The Athletic.

It is positive to see Chelsea prioritising securing the future of their developing talent, hopefully in an effort to prevent the summer exodus we saw in the last transfer window where the likes of Marc Guehi, Tino Livramento and Lewis Bate all moved permanently in search of regular football.

Vale has been reportedly training with the first team and was part of the match-day squad that travelled to Malmo on Tuesday which is a positive step for the midfielder.
