We are back again with another tale to add to the Antonio Rudiger saga. The Blues drew at Wolves over the weekend but Rudiger continued to make a case as to why Chelsea should give him the contract that he deserves.

It’s crazy, Chelsea conceded nine goals in five matches, yet this proves how badly we need Rudiger in the squad. His presence goes beyond the previous string of clean sheets. It’s his personality and his continuous desire to keep winning at all costs. He doesn’t settle for second best as shown against Wolves.

However, Chelsea could potentially find this elsewhere as links to Juventus begin to strengthen. Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the last summer transfer window and while Rudiger’s future remains in the balance, Juventus could provide us with a swift solution to sourcing a younger replacement. After Chelsea’s Molineux stalemate, Rudiger told the Chelsea website:

"You know our situation, but that point feels like a loss, to be honest. It doesn’t matter about the circumstances and everything. It doesn't feel good. "Yes of course it is not easy [preparing in our current circumstances], definitely not. We still had a competitive team out there to do something. We came here to win. We should have provided more chances to score, and if you don't bury your chances it's difficult to win away.'"

Matthijs De Ligt has been linked with a move to Chelsea from Juventus as Rudiger continues to be linked with an exit This is the winning mentality needed at the football club. Where the team was thought to lack leadership, Rudiger proves that there is plenty of it through himself. The defender holds a voice with the fans and with the players, highlighting his importance to the team. His skillset may be found elsewhere but will this quality in a player be replaceable?

I find some comfort in knowing that Chelsea could sign De Ligt if all fails with Rudiger. De Ligt is a known mentality monster. He thrives off of great performances and always pushes to do better on the pitch. From a young age, he captained Ajax and led the team to a Champions League semi-final.

His presence was felt throughout the European competition and his price tag instantly went up. A move to Juventus saw the then 19-year-old leave his home to seek out a new challenge in one of Italy’s most renowned defensive clubs. His initial press conference came with some memorable quotes from the Dutchman. Such as:

"There are four competitions and we want to win them all. This is the mentality of Juventus.I'm 19, I can still improve and I want to do that. It's important to work hard every day and to learn and I hope to become a better player."

The mentality to win is already there, coupled with the desire to continue to do better despite his tender years. His current transfer market value stands at £63m according to transfermarkt.

It is up to Chelsea to decide whether they would want to spend such an amount on the 22-year-old or if they’d go for the cheaper (in quotation marks) option and give Rudiger the salary that he is asking for.

His contract demands are significant and Juventus will pay hardball over a fee for the Dutch defender - but he looks the perfect potential successor.
