Andreas Christensen is still yet to sign a new contract, and the fact is Chelsea may have to move on. And, that’s ok. It is essential to move on with the correct replacement to take that step closer to Manchester City. Like it or not, Pep Guardiola’s side is the benchmark. I know it, you know it, Thomas Tuchel knows it.

There is no point lingering over a situation that only Christensen can control. The contract is allegedly there, and it Is up to him to sign it. In the meantime, it doesn’t hurt to reignite our interest in Jules Kounde. After all, the stats show that his addition could help bridge the gap between the Blues and the current Premier League leaders.

Manchester City and Sevilla lead Europe with the best defensive records this season. Manchester City has conceded just 13 goals so far in the league, whereas Sevilla has conceded 14. Sevilla's defensive form is not solely down to Kounde , but the right-footed centre back has played his part.

To be the best, Chelsea needs to have the best players. It's just a fact. Pep Guardiola has built an army of talent during his time at Manchester City. It wasn't built in a day, but he started with the defensive line. Behind every Premier League Champion is a strong defence. Whilst Christensen has shown promise and has proven to contribute to the team.

He is indeed replaceable. I disagree with how the 25-year-old has reportedly handled the contract situation. In these situations, you must accept whether or not Christensen can be replaced and with Kounde knocking on the door, the answer is yes. It's a harsh reality as I'd warmed up to the young defender, but it seems that his heart is with a move away from Stamford bridge. We have to do what benefits the team.

Kounde is a Tuchel target, so it will serve us well to back the manager and get him through the door this summer. In an ideal world, Chelsea keeps Christensen and also buys Kounde, but after all the contract drama, it’s a dream far from becoming a reality.

Kounde has been open about wanting a move to Chelsea. He was left disappointed after negotiations fell through in last summers transfer window. We can expect Chelsea to go in again in the summer for the 24-year-old, which could take us one step closer to Manchester City.
